Weak: “Your story was not compelling.”

Strong: “In your conflict example, you described the team disagreement well, but your own decision-making was unclear. I still don’t know what call you made, what risk you accepted, and what changed because of your action. Tighten the story around your judgment.”

  • what options you failed to compare
  • what decision criteria were missing
  • whether your recommendation matched your stated objective
  • whether you acknowledged meaningful downside

  • Weak: “You should prioritize better.”
  • Strong: “You listed three plausible initiatives, but never explained why one mattered most now. Add explicit prioritization criteria and name the tradeoff you’re accepting.”

  • whether your metric is leading or lagging

A quick test: would this feedback help you answer the same question better tomorrow?

A simple way to judge product manager interview feedback is to ask:

If I got the same prompt again tomorrow, would this comment clearly change my answer?

If the answer is no, the feedback is probably too vague.

1. Practice one question normally

2. Review the answer at the level of moments, not vibes

Look for places where you:

  • got lost
  • over-explained
  • skipped a decision

  • gave generic user reasoning
  • became defensive or fuzzy in follow-ups

3. Isolate one weakness

Pick one issue only, such as:

  • weak prioritization logic
  • poor metric selection
  • unclear recommendation

4. Retry the same or similar prompt

Do not immediately move on to ten new questions. Re-answer with that one improvement in mind.

5. Compare versions

The question is not “was version two perfect?” The question is “did this answer improve on the exact weakness identified?”
